Use of the IIF
This policy governs the use of the IIF located in the basement of Burling Library.
Individuals wishing to reserve the IIF should determine what day and time they would like to make a reservation on the online calendar and contact Sharon Clayton, Administrative Assistant to the Librarian of the College, during normal business hours at clayton@grinnell.edu or x3351. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance of the day the room is needed. .
Reservations fall into two categories: Course-Related Instruction and Public Instruction.
Course-Related Instruction
The IIF may be reserved for course-related instruction from 8:00 a.m. until 4:15 p.m. Monday through Friday, or at other times Monday through Friday if the room is available. Reservations may be made by faculty and staff of the College. The course instructor must be present in the room during the reserved times. Because of fire code regulations, no class may be scheduled to meet in the facility on a continuing or regular basis.
Instructors can have a Library User Consultant (UC) present if unsure how to use the technology, such as Robotel or the AV equipment, and would like someone available to provide assistance. Please let Sharon Clayton know if you would like to take advantage of this service.
Public Instruction
The IIF may be reserved for public instruction from 4:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the week, or at other times if the room is available. Reservations for public instruction may be made by Grinnell College faculty, staff, and recognized campus organizations. The instructor must be present in the lab during the reserved times.
Responsibility of Instructor
Instructors will be responsible for knowing how the relevant software programs and equipment functions and for arranging to have needed technical support available during the class period. Please contact a librarian regarding training and support for the facility.
Training sessions on how to use the equipment in the IIF will be offered periodically. Individuals interested in using the facility are encouraged to attend one of those sessions.
Use of the IIF for General Computing
The IIF will be available for general computing use by Grinnell College students, staff, and faculty from 5:00 p.m. until 12:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday; from 5:00 p.m. until the library closes on Friday or 30 minutes after the last scheduled use; and on weekends when the library is open unless otherwise scheduled for course-related or public instruction. If a reservation is scheduled, users are asked to leave 15 minutes prior to the reserved activity. (Please check the calendar outside the IIF doot or at http://www.lib.grinnell.edu/general/facilities/IIF/IIFreservations.html). Sunday through Thursday evenings a Technology Consultant will be present in the lab and will be responsible for ensuring that the equipment and software are functioning properly after the lab closes.
