Off Campus Connectivity

Configuring Firefox for Off Campus Access on a PC

If you do not have Firefox version 1.5 or above, you may need to download the latest version of Firefox before you can complete these steps.

To check which version of Firefox you have:

• Open Firefox.
• In the top menu bar, under Help, select About Mozilla Firefox.
• The major version is shown as a number followed by a decimal point (like 1.5), plus more numbers for the "minor" version. (You don't need to worry about the minor version.)

• If you have Firefox version 1.4 or below, download the latest version of Firefox (free download) , and then go to the instructions for Firefox 2.0.
• If you have Firefox version 1.5, continue on to the instructions below or download the latest version of Firefox (free download) , and then go to the instructions for Firefox 2.0.
• If you have Firefox is version 2.0 or above, go to the instructions for Firefox 2.0.

Configure Firefox 1.5 for Off Campus Access

• Open Firefox.
• In the top menu bar, click Tools, and then click Options...

• In the Options menu that pops up, click General and then click Connection Settings...

• In the Connection Settings menu that pops up, click the button next to Automatic proxy configuration URL.

• In the text box, type: http://cat.lib.grinnell.edu:8080/proxy.pac (It may be easier to copy and paste the URL from here.)
• Click Reload, click OK to close the Connection Settings menu, and click OK to close the Options menu.

Your browser should now be configured to access library resources from off campus. You do not need to restart your browser.

One more thing...
When you try to access a licensed resource, you will be prompted to type your campus username and password.
