![]() Alumni Hall (Music Building) Constructed: 1882, razed in 1958 to make room for construction of Burling Library. Architect: H. S. Josselyn and Eugene H. Taylor, Cedar Rapids, IA Cost: Approximately $19,100 excluding grading and landscaping Initial Functions: Alumni Hall was the first of the three new buildings constructed following the tornado of 1882. It was built on the foundation of East College which had burned in 1871. The lower half-story served as college gymnasium, the first level was chapel, second floor was initially used as a temporary library, third floor housed large literary society rooms. In 1906 the building was remodeled to serve as the Music building. |
